When I think of a pornographic film, I think of a film that is created for the sole purpose of displaying sex. It's a film in which the viewer, 9 times out of 10, fast-forwards until the cable repair man has arrived and REAL action begins. I feel that this genre that I'm speaking of (which is widely dubbed "torture porn"), while maybe not QUITE that blatant, is spitting out films that have weak McGuffins (so to speak) that serve only to get to the violence. Instead of violence being a part of the story, the story exists for the sake of showing violence - much like pornography and sex.

Now, one can say that the entire horror industry lives for the violence, and I understand that and am usually part of thier captive audience. However, I think my problem is the TYPE of violence. I can watch countless "Dead Teenager Movies," but few scenes of violence have affected me like, say, the scene with Mr. Blonde and the cop in RESERVIOR DOGS. For as much as I love that film, I can't bring myself to ever watch that scene again. And honestly, I'm kind of glad I don't have any desire to see it.

More to come.

By the way - sorry about the misspelled words...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
